About Fields Dance Studio

The family-owned and operated Fields Dance Studio has been teaching dance, tumbling, and theatrics to children and adults in Hampton Roads, Virginia since 1936. The studio is known throughout the area for performing at community and charitable events, VA hospitals, the MDA, the Cancer Society, nursing homes, the Peninsula Food Bank, local parades and festivals, and the annual Fantapulous production in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. The studio has produced 86 annual recitals (!).

Our faculty consists of trained teachers with years of teaching and professional dance experience. Members of the faculty have trained at both local and national levels, and bring a diverse set of knowledge to our dancers. Some of our teachers have judged dance and talent competitions, and have served as choreographers for local television, charity benefits, musicals, and other special events. enjoy their lessons.

Our students have appeared at/in State Fairs, the Lost Colony historical drama in Manteo, NC, Stars of Tomorrow in Atlantic City, NJ, community theater, television commercials, modeling companies, Miss Teenage America, USO Shows, national television shows, and local radio shows. They have been awarded dance scholarships at colleges and universities, and have founded their own dance studios in other parts of the nation.

Meet The Faculty!

Judi Fields

Owner, director, and instructor for 60 years. Judi teaches ballet, tap, pointe, jazz, lyrical, tumbling, and musical theater. She is the manager of the Gotta Love Dance Company. She was the choreographer for a local television show for 2 1/2 years, has choreographed for the Miss Hampton Roads USA pageant, and managed the Fields Hawaiian Dancers for 4 years. Her biggest contribution to her success is her love of children, and her ability to communicate the joy of dance. In addition to teaching dance, Judi is also an accomplished costumer. She enjoys the creativity of designing and making costumes, and manageing the Fields Performance Company.

 

Lori Dangerfield

Instructor for 37 years. Lori's dance specialties are tap, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and musical theater. She holds a National Solo title in tap. Throughout her career, Lori has won many first-place trophies for baton in the duet, trio, and dance twirl team categories at the local, state, and national levels. Her skill and creativity make a class with her a great experience and education. Lori is co-director of the award-winning Fields Performance Company.

 

Cindi Fields

Instructor for 35 years. Cindi specializes in ballet and pointe, with an extensive background in choreography for both classical and contemporary ballet. She has studied modern, tap, dance history, ballet, pointe, kinesiology, and stagecraft at both Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University. Cindi also teaches lyrical, jazz, tap, and musical theater. She is successful in getting students excited about dance so they want to learn more, and preparing them for college and beyond. Cindi is co-director of the award-winning Fields Performance Company.

 

Lucy Lee (Chelydra)

Instructor for 38 years. Lucy teaches folk dance of North Africa and the Middle East from beginner through professional levels, and is now offering beginning and intermediate yoga classes. She has danced professionally since 1980, and was the director of the Caravan East Middle Eastern Dance Troupe from 1981-1998. She is the producer of the No-Frills series of instructional videos in middle eastern dance. In 2004 and 2006, one of her choreographies was selected for presentation in the Local Choreographer's Showcase sponsored by Old Dominion University. She is the studio "cover girl", having twice been the featured dancer on the cover of Zaghareet! magazine. Her extensive research and study of folk dances of the Middle East and Northern Africa provide a truly authentic flavor to classes. Lucy considers dance to be serious fun, and carries that philosophy into her classes.

 

Ernie Fields

Owner, director, and retired instructor after 60+ years of teaching. Ernie taught tap, ballet, ballroom, clown arts, acrobatics, baton, and musical theater. Ernie has performed in Little Theatre, instructed at national dance conventions, assisted in television productions, choreographed and directed high school musicals, worked with non-profit organizations, and contributed and assisted with a variety of dance and entertainment projects. Ernie was the founder of the Fields Dance Studio Satellite Program, which brought dance, gymnastics, and theatrics to schools and day care centers throughout Hampton Roads.
